Dear Friends of L.I.F.T.,
The 2008-2009 Funding Year marks a 17th Anniversary of “L.I.F.T. Women’s Resource Center” (LIFT). L.I.F.T. was established as an Outreach Ministry of the Oak Grove A.M.E. Church in 1990, and the organization’s name was changed in 1991 to the L.I.F.T. Women’s Resource Center. This title gives a broader definition of what this 501c3 Non Profit Organization does. The acronym L.I.F.T. stands for Lifting In Faith Together.
Since its creation L.I.F.T. has provided services for literally thousands of women and low income families, including helping rebuilding self-esteem and self-sufficiency with the ultimate goal of increasing their economic opportunities and ability to live independently.
The 2008-2009 Year has been a very difficult year for families in our community. The unstable economic climate has not only affected those living below the poverty level but also an increasing number of middle class families who struggle to cope with rising unemployment and fewer community resources. We must remember that the Lord told us that the “Poor” will be with us always and that our “role” is to be supportive and helpful. This is L.I.F.T.’s Mission.
As L.I.F.T. staff, Board Members, and supporters and as we addressed these harsh situations, we are please to celebrate the opportunity to help these thousands of families, women, and children. We are grateful for the dedicated support of our Board of Directors, volunteers and staff who work together to ensure that quality services are delivered to those in the greatest need. The very challenging environment does not dampen our spirits.
As I close, I would like to emphasize as with many organizations like L.I.F.T Women’s Resource Center, there is more need of people to help the organization accomplish its goals - dedicated board members, committee members, funds, and in-kind materials and services.
Sincerely,
Alfred Taylor
